Ceramics
The work is an exploration of ideas reflecting the natural characteristics and textures of earth and clay using marks that appear naturally rather than imposing marks on the clay. The work is sculptural and not intended to be functional.
A particular inspiration is the natural earth strata in cliffs and rock outcrops such as found on Dartmoor, in coastlines and other landscapes made by the force of nature and embracing the Japanese concept of 'wabi-sabi' which teaches the acceptance of imperfection and the appreciation of the beauty in that imperfection.
